By joining our Project Delivery & Preservation Branch II Lyon County Unit as a Highway Technician Superintendent II in Lyon County, you'll have the opportunity to formulate and implement all construction phases of highway projects as well as maintaining and operating the existing state highway system.
Holders of the Highway Technician Superintendent II position will complete tasks such as:
Supervises, coordinates, and creates long-term highway maintenance programs within the assigned area.
Reviews roadway conditions, identifies highway maintenance needs, determines appropriate repairs and methods, prioritizes individual projects, and determines schedules for completion.
Maintains and completes records and reports (including electronic) on personnel, equipment, supplies, and budget.
Responds to and properly supervises snow and ice removal and other emergencies Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:
Be able to communicate job tasks to employees Basic knowledge of equipment Supervise and assist employees with maintenance/construction projects Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:
Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Must have twelve years of construction or highway maintenance experience.

Minimum Requirements EDUCATION:
High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
Must have twelve years of construction or highway maintenance experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for
Experience:
Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in engineering technology, construction management, engineering science, engineering mechanics, geology, earth science, industrial drafting, design technology, construction technology or a related field will substitute for two (2) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering will substitute for four (4) years of the highway related experience in construction and maintenance.
Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree in Engineering Technology with completion of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship Program will substitute for six (6) years of highway related experience in construction or maintenance.
College coursework related to any of these fields will substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
NONE SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.
):
Must be 18 years of age.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's and a Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement to qualify for employment in this job classification.
The employee must successfully complete the KYTC Highway Technician Academy Leadership Level 2 or equivalent within one year of employment in this job classification.
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification.
Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials.
Working Conditions Incumbents in this job title typically perform their work at a highway maintenance facility or section office, at work sites throughout the assigned work area and when necessary, district wide.
Incumbent will be exposed to risks inherent to working with large equipment and machines involved with road construction.
Must be able to work extended hours and be outside during inclement weather.
Probationary Period This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 12 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.
